Hugo Weaving portrayed Captain America's greatest villain, The Red Skull, in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. The actor subsequently confirmed that he had signed a multi-picture deal with Marvel, which has become a standard practice for actors and actresses who join with the studio. But could Weaving appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War?

Weaving was promoting his new drug drama The Mule and The Hollywood Reporter asked him about the possibility of appearing in the third Captain America film or another Marvel movie. "I have absolutely no idea," the actor replied. "I haven't talked to anyone about it, so, yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. No idea at all."

Weaving has been somewhat tepid about his desire to return for another Marvel movie, but Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said the Red Skull could appear again at some point in the future, according to THR. There is some speculation that Daniel Bruhl's mysterious villain could be the Red Skull in some form. The character did not appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year.

In case you missed it, here's Marvel's official announcement about Bruhl joining the movie.

"Daniel Bruhl ('Rush,' 'Inglourious Basterds') has joined the cast of Marvel's 'Captain America: Civil War,' set to rock the Marvel Cinematic Universe on May 6, 2016.

The celebrated actor earned Golden Globe, SAG, BAFTA and Critics' Choice nominations for his role as Niki Lauda in director Ron Howard's 'Rush.' In addition to Howard, Bruhl has also worked with other esteemed directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Paul Greengrass, Anton Corbijn, and Michael Winterbottom.

Bruhl joins Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) in 'Captain America: Civil War,' with Joe and Anthony Russo returning to direct after this year's hit Marvel's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.'

'With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes,' said Producer Kevin Feige."

The statement does not reveal Bruhl's role in Civil War, but Deadline reports he "is not the main villain in Captain America: Civil War but could potentially be the top menace in Marvel's Doctor Strange."
