Fans of AMC's The Waking Dead were left reeling from the hit show's stunning mid-season finale, but West Coast fans were even more stunned after AMC posted a huge spoiler to the Walking Dead Facebook and Twitter pages at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time ... which meant a massive plot reveal had been given away before it aired on the West Coast. Yikes!

Said the statement: "We heard your feedback to last night's post, and we're sorry. With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler."

It continued, adding that the network will make sure it never happens again:

"Please know we're going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead. As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support. #RIPSpoiler."

The spoiler was concerning the death of a major character, and it seemingly left a bad taste in many fans's mouths. Presumably, y'know, not as bad a taste as whatever those zombies are eating, but still.

The reaction — SPOILERS IN LINKS — on Facebook and Twitter to the image posted was loud and as ferocious as Daryl dispatching a walker.

The image concerned a body Daryl was seen carrying out of the hospital at the end of the episode.

As ew.com reports, the spoiler didn't hurt the finale's ratings, with "Coda" scoring "14.8 million viewers and a 9.6 rating among adults 18-49. That's TWD's best-ever performance for a midseason finale."

The Walking Dead will return Feb. 8, teamed up with the new Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul airing directly after.
