Their horrid 2014 season aside, the New York Jets are a team to be remembered. At least one national museum thinks so, anyway. The New York Daily News is reporting that the green Jets jacket worn by young boy character Kevin Arnold (played by Fred Savage) in the late-'80s, early '90s com-dram The Wonder Years, has been donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

The jacket was saved by Savage's mother. Savage appeared on the hit show that aired from 1988 to 1993, according to the Daily News.

You may know him better as this guy's (Ben Savage's) brother (for best results and ultimate nostalgia, skip to 0:25):

"My mom kept this for 25 years because someday — she would joke — the Smithsonian might want it," Fred Savage wrote on Instagram recently. "Well ... it turns out she was right. We (and the jacket) are heading to DC next month! Happy Birthday Mom!! I love you!"

Fred Savage reunited with other The Wonder Years cast members at the Smithsonian on Tuesday to properly see the show's memorabilia off. Reuters reports the cast also donated costumes, scripts and tapes from the show.

Fred Savage called the induction the beginning of "a legacy that none of us could have possibly imagined," for the show.

So maybe the Smithsonian isn't exactly immortalizing the Jets.

But the jacket is still there to stay.

The Jets are certainly nothing to savor this season, as a revolving door at quarterback has led to an abysmal 2-10 record.

They weren't so hot when The Wonder Years was on the air either, posting a 38- 57 record from 1988 to 1993. They made just one playoff appearance during that stretch, in 1991, when they lost to the Oilers in the wild card round.
