Tupac killed Michael Jackson? South Park have no qualms in poking fun at the music industry – especially Kiwi pop sensation and Taylor Swift's BFF Lorde, having her played by Stan's dad Randy Marsh – and now they've expanded to taking on the world's biggest popstars. This week's episode, "#REHASH," goes after the biggest female stars in music, making fun of Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, a big-bootied Iggy Azalea, and, of course Lorde, for making "rehashed sh-t"... and Michael Jackson and Tupac aren't safe either. Not to be stopped there, Matt Stone and Trey Parker's show has Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare squarely in its sights as well.
During the episode, the slew of female pop stars take part in a huge benefit concert, called Women of Rock a "night of pure estrogen" which is in aid of "the gluten crisis in West Africa". In criticizing how "everything these kids are into today is just rehashed sh*t", the episode does't just take on pop music, it also comments on the South Park kids not understanding "kids these days" and their attitudes towards game like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and the culture of Youtube commentary.
But things soon go south at the benefit show when Randy Lorde explains to his manager that he's afraid to perform live, and scared of what the reaction will be.
The manager responds in typically harsh South Park fashion, "You think those people out there care what you sound like? You're just another a female pop star: just go out there, pump your hips and rub your cl*t."
Randy Lorde defends his music and image, arguing that younger girls need something "a little more positive" as role models, but Iggy Azalea – with a comically enhanced booty – is having none of it, shouting "That's easy for you to say, you don't have a nice body. Is that why you're so high and mighty Lorde, because you're jealous of this booty?"
The pair throw down, but once they're broken up Iggy accuses Lorde of being "an internet bullshit artist." As Billboard explains, Iggy then performs "a song called "Missy Who" –– a sly nod to those bemoaning the fact that Azalea is enjoying a level of ubiquity much higher than a superior rapper like Missy Elliott never did."

Later in the show Iggy is joined "via hologram and sh*t" by Michael Jackson, who eventually escapes and needs to be hunted down by a strapped Tupac (also a hologram).
As you can imagine, it's another entry into the echelon of great South Park episodes, with this season's Washington Redskins-lambasting "Go Fund Yourself", the mocking of trend-following in "Gluten Free Ebola" and freemium gaming in "Freemium Isn't Free" delivering great ratings alongside some particularly funny highlights. As Notre Dame's The Observer points out, South Park is "stronger than ever".
You can watch the episode through Hulu HERE.
What do you think – is South Park back to its best? Do you think they're being too harsh on Lorde by having her played by a 45 year old man?
