'Marvel's Luke Cage' Casting: Mike Colter Frontrunner After Lance Gross, Cleo Anthony For Netflix Hero!

With Marvel's Daredevil already in production, the casting search has already begun for the next leading man in the new Netflix superhero series. In the latest casting news, Mike Colter (Zero Dark Thirty) appears to be the frontrunner after ctors Lance Gross (Crisis), Cleo Anthony (Transparent) for the lead role in Marvel's Luke Cage.

As we previously mentioned, Carl Lucas is framed for a crime he didn't commit. Wanting to get revenge for the alleged drug bust, the wrongfully accused criminal volunteers for an experimental treatment at the prison. The chemical compounds end up giving him superhuman strength and durability.

Cage was featured prominently in the posters for the AXIS crossover event. In the comics, Cage and Jessica Jones have a on-and-off relationship, even a drunken one night stand. Known for his team-ups with Iron Fist, Cage also served as a bodyguard for Matt Murdock, when his secret identity was revealed by the press.

Reportedly, the Everybody Hates Chris comedian, Terry Crews, had been offered by Marvel to play the role. The question was timing, especially because his award-winning Brooklyn Nine-Nine is already underway in its second season.

Now Deadline sates an actor has supposedly been picked for the project, "It came down to [Krysten Ritter] and Teresa Palmer, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following's Mike Colter, believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage."

Maybe the Old Spice commercial actor knows something we don't know. Posted on his official Whosay account, the Expendables franchise actor shares a snapshot and writes, "Congratulations to my man Mike Colter for being cast as LUKE CAGE! A brilliant actor for one of my favorite superheroes ever! Love him!"

Screenrant mentions that while they wait for official confirmation from Marvel themselves, Luke Cage is scheduled to hit Netflix sometime after the premiere of Daredevil, which arrives May 2015, and Jessica Jones.
