Josh Brolin portrayed the Mad Titan, Thanos, in Guardians of the Galaxy earlier this year. The character first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the after-credits scene of The Avengers back in 2012. In a recent interview, Brolin explains why he took the role and when it became a possibility for him to do so.

Brolin spoke to Superhero Hype and explained why he wanted to play the character, one of the most evil in the Marvel Universe. "I love the idea of Thanos," Brolin said. "Ultimately, it's Thanos against everyone. Why wouldn't you do that?"

The actor also explained how he landed the role. "Thanos came along because of my good friend Louis D'Esposito," he said. "He and I used to train together. We did Hollow Man together. He called me up and started talking about this thing. It was nice because I could intimately talk to him about it, what I liked, what I didn't like about the whole idea of it...It was really exciting because of the possibilities that it could become, not as an idea or as a blockbuster, but just as something different. It's a character mentality."

It's unclear when, where, how, and why Thanos would appear again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We last saw the character in Guardians of the Galaxy this year. The sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, is in the works, and the two-part The Avengers: Infinity War is due in the near future, too, so expect to see more of Brolin as the Mad Titan sooner rather than later.
