Known as a legend and a recognized father to the gaming industry, Ralph H. Baer, the creator of the original home gaming console, passed away at the age of 92. Inventor of Pong, Simon, and the Magnovox Odyssey, Barer took the industry by storm and his contributions can still be seen today.

Gamers today have Call of Duty, The Walking Dead: The Game series, and Grand Theft Auto, which has catapulted because of graphics, voice work, and controls. But what we have today need to starts somewhere. According to the Washington Post, Baer was proud of his contributions to the gaming industry and told the Tribune, "Nobody realized, even at that time, that we were on this geometric curve ... that would go straight up to heaven. It was unforeseeable; it was fantastic. I'm glad it happened. And if I hadn't had started it, someone else would have."

Here are the top 5 games made by Baer:

5) Magnavox Odyssey

Before Xbox and way before Nintendo Nes, Magnavox Odyssey was the first home computer game console. Back when televisions were analog, notice how gamers would stick something onto their screen and use a joystick to play hockey.

4) Simon 1978

Gamers would have to remember the pattern once the different colored lights started blinking. This game would test your memory and see if could replicate the same order after a few seconds.

3) MASK Laser Command

Based on the MASK action figure series, his involved modeling and assembling at the same time. You would put the puzzle together and place stickers on the side. A collector's item if you ever find one in your attic.

2) Smarty Bear

Late night comic Conan O'Brien loves having WikiBear around for his hilarious segments. Baer designed one back in the day as a children's day. I don't think Baer ever expected to see his invention go further as a stand-up act.

1) Pong

Simple, yet very effective. Actor Tom Cavanagh may play a scientist on The Flash, but he's no match for Baer as he goes one-on-one against him.

Videogames would not have advanced and become what they are today if Ralph H. Baer hadn't started it all. Readers, do you remember Pong?
