Diverticulitis is the digestive disease that has affected Van Halen's lead guitarist, causing the band to postpone their tour.  The 57-year-old guitarist completed an emergency surgery, the band's statement read.

"Eddie underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 - 6 months."
Their Japan tour was originally scheduled for November but has been rescheduled for 2013.

What exactly is Diverticulitis?  According to the definition on Merriam Webster's online dictionary, it is an "inflammation or infection of a diverticulum of the colon that is marked by abdominal pain or tenderness often accompanied by fever, chills, and cramping."
It is good to know that the surgery was successful.
