The Vampire Diaries is about to unwrap its winter finale episode this week and we couldn't be more excited to see what will happen to the Mystic Falls gang as they celebrate the holiday season. While Bonnie is still on the other side, celebrating her favorite time of year by herself, it looks like Caroline and Stefan are moving one step closer to becoming a full fledged couple; while Damon and Elena may finally get back to where they were before she compelled the memories of him away.
E! News sat down with executive producer of the series, Caroline Dries, to get the inside scoop on all of the happenings during this holiday special.
"In this episode, it's all about Christmas and family and being around your friends for the holidays, and this is Bonnie's favorite time of the year," Dries explains. However, it doesn't seem like Bonnie is going to let the fact that she is alone stop her from celebrating the most wonderful time of the year.
"She loved being around Caroline and Elena during the holidays, which we'll see in flashbacks," the EP explained, adding "so instead of crying and feeling sorry for herself, she's going to make the best out of a bad situation and celebrate Christmas with herself."
As far as the Caroline and Stefan relationship tension goes, fans might finally be treated to a tender moment between these two, after all of Stefan's missteps this past season.
"His drive in this episode is going to make things right with Caroline," the producer explains. "She's going to need support and a shoulder to cry on and Stefan's going to step up to the challenge and be there for her."
Damon and Elena are also a couple that will take center stage during this holiday episode, as they head under the mistletoe.
"Well, there's mistletoe and Damon and Elena... it' going to be a highly-anticipated moment, for sure!" Dries revealed. "Elena already told Damon that she can't shake the feelings for she has for him, and they're coming back to her."
Dries also spoke out to TVLine saying that during this episode Elena will realize that she doesn't want to waste her time on Earth, and starts to come around to the thought of being with Damon.
"She kind of has this revelation about not wasting any time; even if you're immortal, you still need to be grateful for your time here," Caroline explains. "She really takes that to heart."
The winter finale will air tonight on The CW at 8 p.m.
