Now that an official name has landed for the upcoming superhero flick for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the search continues for the supporting characters. With actor Benedict Cumberbatch named as the Sorcerer Supreme, will Ken Watanabe, Morgan Freeman, or Bill Nighy be picked to join Marvel's Doctor Strange?
As we previously mentioned, the Sherlock actor himself will play Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange. The story follows the ex-neurosurgeon as he struggles to move forward from a horrific car accident. After discovering the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions, Strange trains himself to become the Sorcerer Supreme.
According to Latino-Review, three contenders have been named for the role of The Ancient One. In the Marvel Universe, the Ancient One is the mentor of Strange and his arch-nemesis, Baron Mordo. In the mythology, Mordo murders his former master, which will cause Strange to seek revenge.
All three names have the acting chops to to share screen time with the Star Trek: Into Darkness thespian. Let's see who's fit the role best.
Ken Watanabe
We loved Watanabe in the Godzilla remake and he appeared to be quite knowledgeable and a skilled fighter in The Last Samurai. This is our favorite pick of the three.
Morgan Freeman
Though comic book fans already recognize Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox from the Dark Knight trilogy, jumping from DC Comics to Marvel should be an easy transition for the versatile Shawshank Redemption actor.
Bill Nighy
Bill Nighy played scary as Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, can he play a former action hero in Doctor Strange?
