When you think of all of the deaths in the Harry Potter book and film franchise, which character would you think author J.K. Rowling regrets killing off the most? Many fans would think bigger characters like Professor Dumbledore, Fred Weasley and Sirius Black would remain on the writer's mind after she wrote them off in devastating ways, but this week she revealed to the fan website Pottermore that it was a very minor character. Do you remember the death of Florean Fortescue? Well Rowling does and it's tearing her up inside!

In case you don't even recall Fortescue in the slightest, The Hollywood Reporter reminds us that he was the owner of a Diagon Alley ice cream parlor that used to give Harry free ice cream on occasion. Clearly he's not a huge character, but Rowling still regrets the choice to kill him off in the story.
"I originally planned Florean to be the conduit for clues that I needed to give Harry during his quest for the Hallows, which is why I established an acquaintance fairly early on," she revealed to Pottermore this week. "The problem was that when I came to write the key parts of Deathly Hallows, I decided that Phineas Nigellus Black was a much more satisfactory means of conveying clues."
She explained further: "I seemed to have him kidnapped and killed for no good reason. He is not the first wizard whom Voldemort murdered because he knew too much (or too little), but he is the only one I feel guilty about, because it was all my fault."
