Several fans (including some fellow rappers) were shocked when J. Cole "called out" a slew of light-skinned emcees "taking advantage" of hip-hop's "white advantage" in his new hit song, "Fire Squad." He even seems to blast the ultimate "Rap God," Eminem (with these lyrics)...
History repeats itself and that's just how it goes
Same way that these rappers always bite each others flows
Same thing that my nigga Elvis did with Rock n Roll
Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and then Macklemore
While silly niggas argue over who gone snatch the crown
Look around my nigga white people have snatched the sound
But Cole swears that he didn't mean any disrespect. In fact, he's a huge fan of the MMLP2 superstar:
"It's silly how big of an Eminem fan I am... It was a very select group of top notch people that I worship, and Eminem was literally at the top of that list," Cole said in a recent radio interview with NYC host Angie Martinez. "My first song sounded like an Eminem bite. If you think I'm dissing Eminem, I know you just read the headline, or you're listening to the song with the headline in mind."
So, what does Shady Records hypeman Crooked I (real name, Dominick Wickliffe) think about the epic "diss" track? The Slaughterhouse member doesn't agree that "The Monster" should even be mentioned on Cole's list, since Slim has proven himself to be a "purist" emcee within the industry. Still, he understands and respects that the 2014 Forest Hills Drive crooner has the right to speak his mind, so no biggie. No growing beef with Roc Nation here!
