Comedian Paul Reueben rose to stardom as he dressed up in short black hair, a grey suit, and red bowtie as the comical character, Pee-Wee Herman. After winning the hearts of adults and children in the late '80s, Pee-wee's Playhouse, co-starring Laurence Fishburne and Phil Hartman, has a new home on Netflix.
Announced on the official Netflix Twitter account, a picture was shared and the caption stated what Conky would usually say, "For the rest of the day, whenever anybody says the secret word, scream real loud! Pee-wee's Playhouse #NowOnNetflix!"
Here are 5 reasons why you should watch Pee-wee's Playhouse on Netflix.
5) Mark Mothersbaugh
The creator of the '80s New Wave band composed the music for the opening theme and end credits. Danny Elfman, who's composed almost all of Tim Burton's films, also worked on the show. The X-Files composer Mark Snow even worked on two episodes.
4) Conky
The playhouse robot, Conky, always gave the day's "Secret Word" to Pee-Wee. The audience was then instructed to "scream real loud" every time someone on the show said the exact word. which was given to Pee-wee by Conky.
3) Troy McClure
With The Simpsons marathon becoming a successful ratings on FXX, can you name how many episodes had the washed-up actor with a bazillion movies on his IMDB list and Bart's sleazy lawyer Lionel Hutz? Both characters were voiced by the Saturday Night Live impersonator. We miss the late Phil Hartman but his comedic legacy lives on as Captain Carl in the first season.
2) Cowboy Curtis
Because we've seen him in serious dramas, like the thriller TV series Hannibal, we forget The Matrix action star started out as a a singing cowboy with a jheri curl mullet.
1) The Mad Genuis
With full creative control, Ruebens wrote, produced, and directed an educational, entertaining, and artistic show for children. As we previously mentioned, the Pushing Daisies actor will be guest starring on IFC's upcoming season of Portlandia starring Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen. A generation of new fans will get to meet Pee-Wee on Netflix.
Pee-Wee's Playhouse can now be streamed on Netflix and the complete series is available on Blu-Ray. Readers, what are you most excited to see on this show?
