Police said Chad Kelly, nephew of former Buffalo Bills star Jim Kelly and Ole Miss quarterback signee, was arrested Sunday after fighting with police and bouncers at a Buffalo bar, according to the Buffalo News.
According to the Buffalo News, Kelly threatened the bouncers at a bar on Pearl Street after he refused to leave the establishment, saying "I'm going to go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place."
Kelly was a star high school quarterback in the Buffalo area before signing to play at the University of Clemson. But Kelly was kicked off the Clemson football team in April for "conduct detrimental to the program," according to Syracuse.com. He then won a National Junior College Athletic Association championship at East Mississippi Community College before signing to join Ole Miss.
He left Western New York as the area's single-season record for passing yards with 3,056 his senior year. He was considered the top junior college quarterback at the time he signed with Ole Miss, the Buffalo News reported.
Syracuse.com reported that Bills star rookie reciever Sammy Watkins tweeted support for Kelly, his former teammate at Clemson.
"@ChadKelly_11 keep your head up be smart what I told you man people want to see you fail it's a shame everybody happy about this situation," tweeted Watkins. "They wonder why some athletes dislike media and do not trust them or trust anybody first thing they do is broadcast negativity," Watkins continued in a later tweet. Watkins seems to forget this is the same media helped hyped into him into becoming the No. 4 overall pick in last year's NFL Draft.
Here's an excerpt from his CBSSports.com draft preview:
"Smooth acceleration and doesn't take long to get up to full speed. Follows blocks well with controlled burst to weave through defenders – multiple gears to win at every level of the field."
