It's been a great season for NCAA underdogs so far. First nobody NJIT defeated powerhouse Michigan on December 6, with NJIT taking a stunning 72-70 victory. Three days later the Wolverines dropped a 45-42 contest to Eastern Michigan. Nebraska lost to Incarnate World, which is apparently a Division I school. Then Michigan State lost to Texas Southern, of all schools. Other close calls included Columbia playing all-world No.1 Kentucky to the brink before the Wildcats recovered. Monday, the No.10 Kansas Jayhawks joined the ranks of perennial national championship contenders that have bitten the dust.

Kansas fell handily to Temple, 72-55, and according to Bleacher Report, was outplayed in all facets of the game. The Jayhawks have now lost by 25-plus points twice this year, something they had done only once in coach Bill Self's previous 11 seasons, according to ESPN.

"We played tired," Kansas coach Bill Self told ESPN. "And we played like we were a half-step slow or even a full step slow, in my eyes."

"They were so much better than us," Self continued. "It wouldn't have mattered how much energy we had. They were far superior tonight."

Kansas falling gives the Big 12 its first truly embarrassing loss of the season. It still has a long way to go to catch up to the Big 10, which also proved the joke of the Power 5 football season. In hoops, the conference already has "nine lopsided losses at the hands of newly-minted Division I programs and directional schools," according to Sporting News.

The Jayhawks will try to rebound on December 30 against Kent State before hosting UNLV. The Big 12 conference schedule starts against No.22 Baylor on January 7. The Jayhawks finished 25-10 last year, when their season ended with a third round loss to Stanford in the NCAA Tournament.
