Like any other human, Chris Pine is intimidated by Meryl Streep. Talking Into The Woods on The Tonight Show, the Star Trek 3 star revealed that it's tough work going into a recording booth after Meryl Streep has made everybody else within hearing distance cry. After it was revealed that Fast & Furious' Justin Lin would be the Star Trek 3 director, Horrible Bosses 2 actor Pine talked to Jimmy Fallon about his dad, being a third generation actor and two dimensional characters... before the erstwhile Jack Ryan/Captain Kirk took part in a challenging game against Fallon called BattleShots.
Jimmy also revealed one very important aspect of Chris Pine. In addition to being a "third generation" actor, whose grandma was a "pin up girl", his dad Robert Pine played Sgt. Joseph Gertaer on the hit '80s cop show, CHiPS! But "he's a super mellow" guy" says Pine.

Pine also discussed his role in the new Disney fantasy/fairytale musical movie, Into The Woods, where he plays Cinderella's prince; but the toughest part was following acting legend Meryl Streep into a recording booth with Into The Woods director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) and other Disney honchos looking on.
"I was called in to record my two songs," explained Pine, "and there's Disney executives, Rob, the choreographer, the musical director, the sound engineer... it's this huge, nerve wracking [experience]," he laughed. "And Meryl is on her little seat drinking her Pino Grigio and on her blackberry, and she waves," he grinned. "I've been outside practicing and rehearsing my but and sweating with heart palpitations, and Rob says, 'Just hold on one second, wait, we just want to play back what Meryl's done'."
"And," he grinned, "they press play and within three bars every grown man is sobbing. Just all kind of off in their own world like 'wow, that's amazing.'"
As for his character, Pine seemed super pleased with his voice over role in the musical comedy, saying "I don't even have a name: I'm Cinderella's prince," the actor laughed. "Wonderfully two dimensional," he described him. It's a "lot of big hair, lot of tight pants, lot of horse riding."
Fallon and Pine then took on the most devious game known to man, Battleship... but with one important wrinkle. It involved booze, thus turning the game into 'BattleShots'. Watch the clip below.
As for the upcoming Star Trek 3, Pine told Movie Fone at a post-Into The Woods screening that he's not sure about the schedule for the next installment, that will now be directed by Justin Lin after JJ Abrams - who directed the previous two Trek installments - departed for the Star Wars franchise last year.
"With Trek, I don't know," Pine told Movie Fone. "I think we're shooting next year. I don't know anything about the story but I haven't read the script. I am pretty sure there is a script but I haven't read it yet.
But he's still excited to get back to the enterprise? "Oh yeah," the actor said. Check out a clip of what Pine would like to happen to Kirk in the next movie below:
