Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, Lost River, is headed straight to video after Warner Bros. Pictures this week announced it had no plans to distribute the film to U.S. theaters. Due to a number of bad reviews, including damning comments from those who viewed the film at its Cannes Film Festival premiere, the movie is headed for other home entertainment options. Frankly, the film looks incredibly weird and not too thought out, according to numerous reviews. Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan and Iain De Caestecker star in this bizarre film. You can watch a trailer for the movie below.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. is planning on releasing the film on home video in April. A number of sources point to the negative reviews that Gosling received as a first-time director, calling out the film for trying to be avant-garde, but falling short or blowing right past.

The film received a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, too.

Slash Film points out that straight to video releases aren't exactly a bad thing anymore, but considering Gosling's star power and his relationship with the studio - this film is probably not for everyone.

Originally entitled How to Catch a Monster, the movie is based around a fantasy- or dreamlike city in which a mother (Hendricks) is trying to protect her children. From what we've seen in teaser trailers and footage, this is definitely a weird one. Smith plays a character named "Bully," who is literally a bully to Caestecker's character, Bones.

Let's take a look at the official trailer for this movie right here:
