Grammy award winning songwriter Joe South died on September 5, 2012 at age 72.  His death was caused by natural causes related to a heart attack he had previously.  The world recently lost Hollywood actor Michael Clarke Duncan and now a rock star is gone.

According to fans who were present during the 60s and 70s, South was as big as the Beatles.  South, whose real name was Joseph Souter, was considered "one of the greatest songwriters of all time" according to Butch Lowery, the president of South's publisher, Lowery Group.

"His songs have touched so many lives. He's such a wonderful guy and loved by many."

South's hits include "Games People Play," Walk A Mile In My Shoes," "Don't It Make You Want to Go Home," "Hush" sung by Deep Purple, and "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden" among others.

A Twitter fan named @JasonIsbell wrote, "Saddened by the loss of Joe South today. An incredible talent if ever there was one."

@askjimmycarter tweeted, "How many times have you heard this song....This was BEATLE big in 1968!! R.I.P. Joe South Games People Play https://youtu.be/PojXf-spKKM He was 72!"
