It's a sad day for the entertainment industry. It's being reported that actor Edward Herrmann, known mainly from his role on Gilmore Girls and playing the ever so wealthy father in the Macaulay Culkin-led film Richie Rich, has passed away at the age of 71. Since the news broke, the late actor has been trending on Twitter.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Herrmann's management confirmed the actor's death. News was initially broke by TMZ, who spoke with Herrmann's family.
From 2000-2007, Herrmann played Richard Gilmore on the acclaimed WB series, which eventually turned to a CW series. While he was known for that role, the actor held many heavy parts in his days on the screen. Before Gilmore Girls, Herrmann won an Emmy for his guest work on The Practice on ABC back in 1999.
All in all, he earned himself five Emmy nominations, two for playing President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Eleanor and Franklin in 1976 and Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years, which was the year later.
