Marvel and ESPN have teamed up for their on-demand sports film, 1 of 1: Genesis. Featuring motion comic footage of the Marvel Comics superheroes with actual interviews of popular modern-day athletes such as Carmelo Anthony, Danica Patrick, and Manny Pacquiao.
According to the plot synopsis, the film explores the notion that superstar athletes are much like real-life superheroes. Though they don't have superpowers, their personal tales evoke themes and narratives especially found in the Marvel Universe. Keep an eye out for appearances by Henrik Lundqvist, Russell Wilson, Anthony, Patrick and others.
It's not so difficult to compare a goalie in hockey to Iron Man. Both have to put on their gear before they go into action. Even Daredevil, the man without fear, has dedicate himself into training his body and get into shape before fighting crime. After taking on his opponent, Chris Algieri, and having beef with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao still needs to deliver a perfect right hook just like Captain America when he faces off against Red Skull.
The #7 power forward of the New York Knicks seems to be on a roll. First his stint on Sons of Anarchy and now this. In his SOA appearance, Anthony showed up to torture Bobby Munson (Mark Boone Junior) and cut out a pair of his fingers. Though he didn't have lines to say, the basketball player proved he was tough enough to take on a member of SAMCRO.

Sports and comic books always seem to go hand-in-hand. After dressing up as Marvel Comics anti-hero on Halloween, the San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan met his idol, Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. Artist Michael Choi put together the comic book icon and the basketball champ on the special cover for The Punisher #11. Even CM Punk is writing a short tale for the upcoming Thor Annual issue.
1 OF 1: Genesis is available to watch now on Google Play and YouTube. Readers, which of sports star and Marvel superhero are you excited to see?
