Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed movie adaptation based off of the Ubisoft video game franchise of the same name was supposed to hit theaters in 2015, but has since been pushed to 2016. This week, we learned the official release date of the project, and we're excited to say that you can check out this bloody action film on Christmas of next year! Assassin's Creed officially hits theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
We recently reported on Channing Tatum's new Gambit movie project also receiving a 2016 release date, only a few months after X-Men: Apocalypse. Read more on these details right here!
Gameinofrmer points out that this new release date for Assassin's Creed comes just a week after the highly anticipated Star Wars spin-off project, which has yet to be announced. Also, Fox will be releasing Hugh Jackman's The Greatest Show On Earth only four days after Fassbender's video game movie. In other words, we're not expecting this movie to break the box office, though the actor does have a draw in the video game/comic book demographic thanks to his X-Men films.

"We absolutely want to respect the game. There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game," Fassbender said back in Aug. 2014 in an interview with IGN. "But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world. I don't really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory - you know, I think it's a very feasible scientific theory."
