USA Network has decided to cancel its spy drama, Covert Affairs, after finishing off Season 5. Main stars Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham will not be returning as their TV counterparts  Annie Walker and Auggie Anderson in the axed sixth season.

During the fourth season, the relationship between CIA agents Annie (Perabo) and Auggie (Gorham) was strained, becoming even more complicated as they stepped onto the field. Their worlds crashed after Annie continued her personal vendetta against Belenko and Auggie discovered his former colleague was murdered.

According to Deadline, economics was the key deciding factor on axing the series. Production costs have gone up over the years as the seasons progressed. Not only were there rising talent fees, the series also went bigger with locations, filming on sets in Toronto and shooting in real locations internationally.

In the fifth season finale, Annie had to make a decision between accepting Ryan McQuaid's (Nic Bishop)'s marriage proposal or joining Joan (Kari Matchett)'s CIA task force. Auggie quit the CIA and left his hacker girlfriend Natasha. Arthur (Peter Gallagher) was also contemplating a potential Senate run.

In our previous MStars News interview, when asked about the possibility of a sixth season, Gorham responded, "Listen, I tell you, I think where we end up at the end of this season, I hope it's not the end. We don't end the season on a cliffhanger in the traditional sense. It could be the end. But it's not the end that the audience would be happy with. It's certainly not how we would want to wrap up these characters' stories."

We also mentioned Suits, Graceland, and Sirens have been renewed. White Collar finished its sixth season with its series finale, capping off with a major win for leading man Matt Bomer (Neal Caffrey) at the People's Choice Awards as Favorite Cable TV Actor.

Annie and Auggie will not be returning for another season of Covert Affairs. Readers, what do you think of the cancellation?
