Despite his hard-hitting and sometimes controversial lyrics, rapper Eminem is a pretty decent guy. Gage Garmo is a 17-year-old Slim Shady fan suffering from Osteosarcoma - a very rare and life-threatening form of bone cancer. The teen was recently told that he has approximately only one week left to live. In that short amount of time, Garmo really wanted a personal visit from the "Rap God" himself.
So, the Shady XV hypeman made sure that happened.
Earlier this month, friends and family of Garmo sparked the Twitter hashtag #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem. The social media trend soon went viral along with pleas to support the #GarmoStrong Fundraiser.
Here's Garmo's story:
@brendamansourx: "@Royceda59 tell marshal he needs to vist my boy gage hes fighting cancer for the 5th time #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem."
@TheSkelcMaster: "@jimmyfallon please help us #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem he's a hero battling cancer please take time 2 watch his story."
@a_Janny0: "watch and retweet #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem everyone show up."
@JessicaNamou: "@haiilie_scott please watch this! #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem he has 5 days to live & his dream is to meet your dad."
@JOEYfromtheD: "#GarmoStrong we all love you Gage everyone retweet and #getgagegarmotomeeteminem @Eminem @Eminem #JOEYfromtheD."
And it worked.
The clip was viewed more than 24,00 times since January 9 and included the video description:
On Sunday, January 11th, 2015 at 12 noon, meet at Borden Park in Rochester Hills to honor Gage Garmo and support his family.
According to TMZ, the designated meeting place was located only 20 minutes from Em's home in Michigan.
But "The Monster" emcee didn't want to make a huge media scene. Instead, he visited Garmo at his home around 5pm on Sunday. The two hung-out for about an hour, just talking and having a good time. The infamous gossip webloid reports that "the whole thing meant a lot to Gage, who was in good spirits during the visit and after."
Garmo passed away shortly after this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
