During the first round of auditions that were held in New York yesterday, new American Idol host, Mariah Carey wasted no time for the diva antics to begin. Apparently, she continuously interrupted rap star, Nicki Minaj, who is also a judge on popular show.
Minaj is said to be making $12 million alongside Carey who is making just shy of $18 million for a one year contract with renewal options. While still creating their grooves on their "A.I." seats, reports have been made that during Minaj's contestant critiques, Carey would butt in and give her own opinion and eventually the self-proclaimed Harajuku Barbie wasted no time fighting back with Carey- loudly. TMZ reports:
"Carey and Nicki Minaj went at it during the first "A.I." taping Sunday in NYC. When Nicki started critiquing a contestant, Mariah would interrupt -- not once, but many times. Each time Mariah interrupted, Nicki fought back by loudly talking over Mariah."
"One 'A.I.' spy said Mariah and Nicki tried to cover their disdain for each other but everyone saw through it, adding, "These girls just don't like each other."
Early on, reports were erupting that Carey wanted her good friend Lenny Kravitz along her side as a judge, because he's more established and less of a distraction than Minaj. The feud between the two artists may come as a surprise to most, since Minaj was featured on Carey's single "Up Out My Face" released in 2010. According to Entertainmentwise.com, when Carey was asked about the alleged feud by the paparazzi she stated, "What tension? There's no tension!"
Other tension and criticism seem to be following Minaj after she stated that she would vote for Mitt Romney for president in a verse she did for Lil Wayne's Dedication 4 "Mercy" track. When President Obama was asked about his opinion on her line, the President stated, "I'm not sure that's actually what happened. I think she had a song on there. A little rap that said that, but she likes to play different characters." Nonetheless, Minaj went directly on twitter to respond to the President's comments:
"Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do... *sends love & support* @BarackObama."
