'Gangnam Style' Parody: Psy Lobbies for Fired Lifeguards to Get Jobs Back [POLL]

What was supposed to be a fun-in-the-sun "Lifeguard-Gangnam Style" video parody ultimately resulted in 13 lifeguards at California's El Monte Aquatic Center getting fired this past August. Now, "Gangnam Style" mastermind Psy hopes to reinstate those lost H2O based-jobs in a MTV plea to El Monte's mayor.

South Korean rapper Psy, who has just signed with Schoolboy Records, told MTV on Friday: "Unfortunately, I'm a rookie here. When I become a big star here, I really want to help them out because that's not fair. I don't think so. What did they do? They weren't wrong? I think it was off duty - that's what I heard. They can be more flexible to each other."

According to seven-year El Monte lifeguard veteran Michael Roa (who posted the viral video on August 26), "We were trying out some dance moves - we didn't think we did anything offensive."

But El Monte mayor Andre Quintero thinks otherwise. While Quintero admitted to the L.A. Times that he believes the former staff made a "very good parody," he still hasn't considering giving the young lifeguards their jobs back.

"If these employees wanted to produce a video for their own enjoyment and memories, they could have asked for permission and shared the video with their family and friends," Quintero said. "Using a medium that is less public."

But Psy sends this message out to Quintero, insisting that the students vying for their jobs back deserve a second chance: "If you may know me or not, but if you know me and if not sooner you're going to know me, I'm begging you to not fire please. Because they were enjoying their souls with some other cultures and it was even off duty... so please if you know me."
