MStars News has learned that the Seattle Seahawks have apologized for the tweet that went viral comparing their struggle and shocking NFC championship game win to Martin Luther King Jr. Monday, Jan. 19, which happened to be MLK Day.
According to Bleacher Report, the NFL team that will be going to Super Bowl XLIX tweeted Monday, on the national holiday that celebrates the legendary civil rights leader's birthday, "We shall overcome."
The tweet had a picture of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson along with a quote and the hashtag #MLKDay, which read:
"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase just take the first step."
Now the team is saying "sorry" for their post. The NFC champs deleted the tweet and replaced it with an apology that read:
"We apologize for poor judgement shown in a tweet sent earlier. We did not intend to compare football to the civil rights legacy of Dr. King."
