Rapper Psy's YouTube dance hit "Gangnam Style" has reached over 200 million views on the popular viral video website, and has since been the object of many video spoofs and parodies because of such vast popularity. One video posted this week by YouTube user "Yuanjin8899" shows Hitler (played by Swiss actor Bruno Ganz in the hit 2004 film "Downfall") dancing and singing along to the South Korean tune. The video makes little sense and was obviously posted simply for entertainment purposes, but some fans beg to question, are the themes of some video parodies getting a little too out of hand?
Psy's "Gangnam Style" has been reinvented by celebrities, lifeguards, soldiers... but Hitler is definitely a new name added to the list. The Hitler parody was first posted on the popular site Reddit, and quickly topped the front page of one of the website's open video discussion forums. Many users questioned the translation of Ganz's German lines and exactly how they relate to Psy's lyrics (in the parody video, which you can view below, Ganz's dialogue is cut so perfectly that it falls right in time with the "Gangnam Style" beat).
Reddit user "Aschebescher" wrote, "The samples they used start somewhere mid sentence or are cut off mid sentence. It doesn't make much sense if you understand the German language."
Which goes to show that "Yuanjin8899" probably meant no harm with his "Gangnam Style" Hitler edition, just wanted to get a few good laughs. But maybe having the former Nazi Party leader star in a parody is a little much, even if it is all in good-humor (especially since the popular Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah was just celebrated this week).
Even so, many users still get a kick out of the Hitler "Gangnam Style" parody, such as user "thegeneralstrike" who commented, "I'm a Jew, and this just made my new year. L'Shana Tova folks."
This specific scene from the film "Downfall" has been parodied numerous times for a variety of subjects, check out Hitler reacting to the new Apple iPhone 5 here.
