Based on the popular crime novels by the late author Elmore Leonard, the final Season 6 season of Justified premiered on FX. As viewers countdown to the series finale, will Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) "kill three of his own men" before he suspects Ava (Joelle Carter) is Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant)'s criminal informant?
As we previously mentioned, in the fifth season finale, Raylan (Olyphant) was just about ready to leave Harlan County to visit his wife and baby daughter. But when he heard Boyd had teamed up with mob boss, Katherine Hale (Mary Steenburgen), Raylan wanted nothing more than to finally bring him in to justice. In the shocking cliffhanger, we discover Ava (Carter) is now an undercover crime informant for Raylan and will snitch on Boyd.
In our recent recap, Raylan failed to stop Boyd (Goggins) from pulling off a bank heist. Even though Ava (Carter) is now a criminal informant, Raylan has to get her to start thinking she can earn back Boyd's trust. Dewey Crowe tried to do the same thing but Boyd was still mad about what happened down in Mexico.
While distracting Dewey, Boyd pulled out his gun and shot him in the head. Boyd couldn't trust Dewey anymore, which is why he had to die. During the night, Boyd watched Ava as she slept, wondering if she is a threat to him as well.
Creator/showrunner Graham Yost reveals to TV Line, "It's a strong, dramatic conclusion, and we walk back from it to a certain extent, in that there's a truth about Boyd that Raylan says to Ava in the fifth episode: 'Boyd's ego was such that he would kill three of his own men before he would suspect Ava,' because he could not believe that Ava would betray him. And so that's ultimately where we land on that, which is he may be questioning it, but he's not going to act on it, or be vocal about it, or ask any questions, really."

The Speed screenwriter continues, "He can't really deal with the reality of that possibility, but there's an exchange in the second episode, between him and Katherine (played by Mary Steenburgen), where you realize that he's defensive about it, and defensive usually indicates a vulnerability. So it's there. He just doesn't want to bring it front of mind."
