During his press conference ahead of today's game, coach Sam Allardyce spoke about West Ham's Andy Carroll returning to Anfield for the first time since leaving Liverpool.

"I hope he doesn't try too hard because that can put you off your game," the manager said. "But football is a team game, so we want everyone to do well and help each other out. I'm sure Andy would like to score and we'll certainly do what we can to try and help him do that. I certainly don't think he has anything to prove, everyone knows how good he is. He just needs to focus and prepare like he does for every game, keep a calm head and play his normal game."

Meanwhile, Liverpool's manager, Brendan Rodgers, was more focused on praising another former player that is now on West Ham, Stewart Downing.

"Stewart was one I did not want to let go," Rodgers said. "It was a difficult start for him but when we worked together at the beginning in the second part of the season he was one of the regular players so he wasn't someone who I wanted to move on."
