University Of Tennessee Fraternity Suspended: Pi Kappa Alpha In Trouble For Using Alcohol Enemas

University of Tennessee suspended fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha for using alcohol enemas. According to CNN, the University of Tennessee has suspended the chapter indefinitely after Alexander Broughton, 20, was rushed to the hospital with high alcohol levels in his blood. 

According to a University spokesman, twelve students were cited for underage drinking and disorderly conduct after the student was taken to the UT Medical Center in critical condition with an alcohol level at 0.40, which is four times over the driving limit.

In a statement, Knoxville police spokesman, Darrell DeBusk said, "Upon extensive questioning, it is believed that members of the fraternity were using rubber tubing inserted into their rectums as a conduit for alcohol as the abundance of capillaries and blood vessels present greatly heightens the level and speed of the alcohol entering the bloodstream as it bypasses the filtering by the liver."

The Broughton's cousin who is also a member of the fraternity said that he wasn't there the evening of the incident and told investigators that Broughton used an alcohol enema. Though the student denies any involvement, the cousin of the student is willing to retract his statement in an affidavit.

University of Tennessee spokesperson, Karen Simsen says hazing is not involved. "It's just an incident involving alcohol." The University is in the process of planning on reinforcing its alcohol education programs. Almost 1,825 students between 18 and 24 die from unintentional injuries from alcohol each year, according to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse.
