Hot off the heels of Marvel's Daredevil, Netflix is now developing the Legend of Zelda series. Based on the popular Legend of Zelda videogame franchise, the sword-wielding teen hero Link and Zelda, Princess of Hyrule, are getting their own Game of Thrones live-action adaptation.

A mixture of swordplay action and fantasy adventure, the Legend of Zelda franchise centers on Link, a courageous teenager (sometimes a little boy) in green clothing. Link's task in the game is to rescue the kidnapped Princess Zelda and save Hyrule from Ganon, the final boss. A pioneer in the gaming industry, the Legend of Zelda was the first console game where you could save and return to the same level later.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix is working closely with Nintendo on the project. Previous adaptations include an animated series, which ran for 13 episodes, which only lasted one season in 1989. Netflix is already describing the adaptation as Game of Thrones for a family-friendly audience.

Because the project is in its early stages, a writer is being sought after to work on the series, A long road from becoming a reality, Netflix or Nintendo could still kill the project, at any point, before it gets off the ground.

Polygon states, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was quoted as saying the company planned to "actively expand our character licensing business." Iwata later mentioned that the game maker was exploring "possibilities in licensing character IP in areas Nintendo has never worked before."
