Those who deem Elvis Presley the 'King of Rock and Roll' can now consider rapper Lil Wayne 'King of the Billboard Charts.' Lil Wayne's 109th song made it on Billboard's Hot 100 on Thursday (thanks to his appearance on the new Game tune "Celebration"), breaking the record for "most songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart" previously held by hip-swaying rockabilly legend Elvis Presley. That's right - the popular rap artist-turned-skateboarder seems to have made rock 'n' roll history.
Now that's one heck of a surprise gift - Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) also celebrates his 30th birthday today (Thursday, Sept. 27).
Some Presley fans might not consider Wayne's new Billboard title as a true "feat" - of the 109 Weezy songs featured on the Hot 100 chart, only 42 are original tracks led by the "Got Money" rapper, the other 67 are tracks that his vocals are only featured in. On Game's "Celebration" (the track that broke Presley's previous record) Lil Wayne is a guest vocalist alongside musicians Chris Brown, Tyga, and Wiz Khalifa.
The Billboard Hot 100 was established in 1958 and features 108 of the King's songs. However, many of Presley's big hits were recorded even before that time (such as 1956's "Heartbreak Hotel") and were unable to be included on the list.
So while Billboard has officially named the Young Money rapper as the artist with the most Hot 100 chart appearances, some would still consider Elvis Presley the true overall hit-maker. What do fans think?
