Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Spoilers: Drea de Matteo Joins Cast

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with new Season 2 episodes on Tuesday, March 3, and a new face will be among the cast when the show comes back.

Marvel has announced that Emmy-winning actress Drea de Matteo, best known for her work on The Sopranos, has joined the cast as Karla Faye Gideon, a woman with gifts and a grudge against S.H.I.E.L.D. who allies with Skye's father, Cal. In the comics, the character had no powers and had an extremely minor role in Daredevil: Redemption.

"We're thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast," said Executive Producer and Marvel's Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. "We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role."

Jaimie Alexander  will also show up again as Lady Sif later this season.

TV Insider reports Alexander will be back on the show later in Season 2 as her character from the Thor films, only this time she will be dressed in normal clothing and will appear on the Portuguese coast with amnesia.

"Sif has no idea who Thor is or that she serves a king, and we're going to have fun with that," said executive producer Jeffrey Bell. "It'll give us some much-needed humor in a season that's been full of betrayal and death. Sif can't even recall who she came here from Asgard to stop, but Agent Coulson [Clark Gregg] and his team will try to help her figure all that out."

Sif will also apparently battle an enemy whose superpowers rival her own, though Marvel has not yet revealed the identity of this enemy.

Alexander appeared in a Season 1 episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
