'Captain America: Civil War' Plot Details, Spoiler: Robert Downey Jr. Says Story Follows Steve Rodgers, Not Iron Man - 2015's 'Age Of Ultron' Star Offers More Hints

The events of Captain America: Civil War, which hits theaters Nov. 14, 2015, will start to unfold this spring in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, thus setting Iron Man and Steve Rodgers against each other. That much we know, but does that mean Tony Stark will share "main character" status with the title character? According to actor Robert Downey Jr., that is not the case. He had a lot to say about the upcoming Chris Evans movie, so keep reading to learn more about this news!

We recently reported on some plot details that Downey revealed in a new interview with Empire Magazine. In an even newer discussion with the online portion of the magazine, the actor cleared up any confusion that his character, Stark, would be considered a leading role. He insists he's portraying the supporting character in the new Marvel movie.

"Ultimately it's Steve's story; it doesn't say 'Iron Man 4: Civil War.' I think that's great too," the Marvel actor said, explaining that fans shouldn't consider him the villain of the film either. "I think Chris has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to [the character]. I remember the comics - on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time. Now we know he's made his peace with that. What's the bigger issue? It can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernized in their own conflict."

Downey teased a bit more about the third Captain America movie, explaining that May's Avengers: Age of Ultron will definitely help explain some story details for the next movie.

"The clues are in Ultron about where we might find him next, but what would it take for Tony to completely turn around everything he's stood for, quote-unquote, because he was the right-wing guy who could still do his own thing," the actor said.
