Stevie Nicks' self-portraits from the '70s inspired the designs and, regardless of what music actually played, her mystical songs set the mood at Reem Acra's Fall 2015 runway show. From the moment the first platinum dress encrusted with crystals hit the stage to the finale of embroidered and bejeweled lace gowns, there was one seductive note after another. Echo's of the "gypsy" mixed effortlessly in her modern hands, and the models embodied the vibe with a slight rocker edge tempered by a more natural look executed beautifully by hairstylist Didier Milage and the makeup team.
The colors, the textures, the dreamy details evoked the kind of fantasies every woman could get lost in. No wonder, many of the dresses flew back to Hollywood last night for a potential Red Carpet appearance this Sunday. Who better to swathe themselves in embroidered, beaded, even feathered chiffons velvets, leathers and laces in photogenic hues of green, amethyst, gold and silver. Acra has always been a favorite of top celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift and Anne Faris whom stunned in a champagne dress at this year's Golden Globes.
Meanwhile in the front row of the standing room only, 1000-seat venue at Lincoln Center, miraculously directed by pr impresario Lou Iacovelli, Pretty Little Liars actress Ashley Benson set off flashes with a plunging neckline in the perfect shade of blush, the same shade that played exquisitely on runway in a pale mink coat, a sheer lace mini and a long beaded gown. It's that pale pink that looks great no matter what skin tone, caramel or porcelain, the one that says pretty and come-hither at once. Long sleeves, tight or poufed at the shoulder, choker necklines and bias cut or below-the-waist flowing gowns, spoke to women who have lived life in style regardless of shape. In other words, her signature sultriness rules no matter what. Acra shows us quite clearly that you don't have to overexpose...but that's always an option.
"This collection is for the "it" girl of today (not a specific age) who really wants luxury and that's fantasy," said the designer backstage after the show as Brook packed up the Oscar hopefuls. "She is a modern gypsy, some silhouettes are for a younger girl because of the length but if I layer them with longer skirts underneath they automatically transform into another dress. There's a magical quality to everything this season."
Indeed, the initial inspiration and the process of revisiting her own archives produced an enchanting event that would make the fairy godmother of rock proud.
