Bear Grylls - the hardcore adventurer and former host of Discovery channel's hit show "Man vs. Wild" - is set to star in his own new reality series on NBC network television. The competition show, slated to be entitled "Get Out Alive," will feature teams of two attempting to "survive in the wild" (sounds something like a cross between "Survivor" and "Amazing Race").

In a public statement made on Monday, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming at NBC Paul Telegdy said: "To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature. He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits.  These contestants are in for the ride of their lives!"

As star of the popular adventure series "Man vs. Wild," Bear tested mankind's survival skills in a number of foreboding scenarios - including climbing Mt. Everest and crossing the North Atlantic in an inflatable boat. Now, he will put reality star contestants to the ultimate "survival" test.

Grylls' "Man vs. Wild" actually came under some heat back in 2006, when critics claimed the show didn't present "authentic" survival situations as they would actually happen in nature. As a result, Discovery  re-edited certain episodes of the show and added enhanced voice-overs to more accurately depict what Grylls was doing.

NBC claims that further creative details on "Get Out Alive" will be released soon. The show, co-produced by Grylls and Electus (the studio run by former NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman), is set to premiere next summer.  Grylls will guide competitors through adventures and teach them grueling survival skills along the way.
