He's back! We aren't sure if Dancing With the Stars fans wished on a shooting star, sold their souls to the devil, or did some black magic, but it seems whatever they did worked, because Derek Hough has just revealed that he will be coming back to the series. Season 20 of the ABC competition will be premiering this spring, but fans were devastated when they heard Hough was sitting the tenth anniversary season out to be part of the Radio City Music hall New York Spring Spectacular.
The cast for the series was announced on Tuesday, Feb. 24 during an appearance on Good Morning America, and Hough surprised fans when he called in via satellite to surprise them with some exciting news.
The DWTS pro explained that it was with the help of the show's producers, as well as Harvey Weinstein, and Madison Square Garden that are really making it possible for him to return to the dance floor.
"This all happened two days ago," Derek said on GMA, adding that he was grateful for the behind-the-scenes team for "moving mountains and making it possible ... it worked out perfectly."
Not only that, but it is the fact that his dancing partner, Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin, attends NYU and lives in New York that makes it easy for the two to train together. They will practice there during their downtime and fly out to Los Angeles where they will compete together every Monday.
According to E! News, Hough's decision to come back to the reality competition was because he "had a little heartbreak not being able to be part of the 10th season," adding that he is "so glad we made it happen."
We can't wait to see Derek and the rest of the cast when Dancing With the Stars returns on March 16 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
