Unsurprisingly, Microsoft creator and owner Bill Gates is at the top of Forbes The World's Billionaires list, with an astounding $79.2 billion as his net worth. Luckily, despite making all the money in the world, Gates has famously been rather charitable with his donations.
Forbes, who recently put out the list, notes that since the year 2000, Gates' Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $30 billion––"a fortune that on its own would be one of the 20 largest in America," according to the reports.
The foundation aims to eliminate the threat of polio throughout the world, specifically in the three remaining countries where it currently exists.
Check out the below list of the world's top billionaires:
1. Bill Gates | Microsoft – $79.2B
2. Carlos Slim Helu | Telecom – $77.1B
3. Warren Buffett | Berkshire Hathaway – $72.7B
4. Amancio Ortega | Zara – $64.5B
5. Larry Ellison | Oracle – $54.3B
6. Charles Koch | Diversified – $43.1
7. David Koch | Diversified – $43.1
8. Christy Walton | Wal-Mart – $41.7B
9. Jim Walton | Wal-Mart – $40.6B
10. Liliane Bettencourt | L'Oreal – $40.1B
Gates has reportedly topped the Forbes list for the past 16 years, with his fortune growing "$3.2 billion since last year..." The publication notes that this is despite him giving a whopping $1.5 billion Microsoft shares to The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The online whiz has made no mention of his list placement on his Twitter account, which is probably a good thing because that'd be a terrible decision.
Instead, he uses the platform to list more educational and cultural points. Check out some of his tweets below:
