Rapper Nelly was detained at a West Texas border patrol checkpoint earlier this week after police found drugs (including marijuana and heroin) and a loaded gun on his tour bus. Apparently the 37-year-old "Dilemma rapper had no idea that such illegal items were on the bus at the time - one of his staff members admitted that the unlawful possessions belonged to him, and Nelly was released.
When Nelly's tour bus was stopped at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint, police dogs ultimately detected the presence of drugs. Officers seized 0.64 ounces of heroin, more than 10 pounds of marijuana, and a loaded .45-caliber pistol. Nelly and six of his crew were then detained - staffer Brian Keith Jones allegedly confessed to the crime, and the other individuals were then released.
Nelly then took to Twitter to inform fans that he had nothing to do with the drugs and gun:
@Nelly_Mo: "I'm not gone front I'm MAD as Hell about this sh#t!!2have some1 who works 4u n who u call a friend 4 ova 10years jeopardize ur life WTF?"
He then went on to tweet:
@Nelly_Mo: "That being said he was not only an employee but he was fam some1 who protected my life 4many years! No excuses for wad he did!!!! MY heart goes out to his fam and his kids!!!!"
Nelly also spoke to TMZ: "It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning. Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to being these on board."
Presumably relieved, Nelly added, "Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual."
Some reports claim that the content found in the 36 small plastic bags was not heroine, but ecstasy. Law enforcement still insist only heroin was found on the bus despite these claims.
The Texas checkpoint where Nelly was detained is a hotspot for celebrity drug-related arrests: Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg/Lion, and Fiona Apple have also been detained at the same location.
