Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson might be taking the world by storm with her role in the blockbuster erotic film, but it seems that her mom is about to steal the spotlight back from her daughter. Melanie Griffith, has just been cast in an all-new comedy project at ABC. The Working Girl actress and ex wife of Antonio Banderas has just landed the role and will be getting back to her comedy roots. According to TVLine, Griffith will star in the project titled Queenly, where she will play a former beauty pageant queen. The series, originally titled The Brainy Bunch, comes from Kip and Mona Lisa Harding's novel of the same name and will be helmed by writers Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux.

The series will be shot in single-camera format and will follow Kip Mitchell and his wife Mona Lisa and their kids. After returning home from the military, Kip discovers that Mona might have raised their children to be too smart and they are totally socially inept.

Griffith will play Mona Lisa's mom Celeste, who has invited her daughter and her family to live with her.

According to Deadline, this role will mark Melanie's return to the world of acting, as she hasn't had a regular series gig in more than a decade. She did appear on Fox's series Raising Hope for a few episodes in 2012 and more recently had a role on Hawaii Five-0. This is her first series role since 2006, when her comedy series Twins ended in 2006. Melanie also was present for her daughter's Saturday Night Live hosting duties earlier this month. She was even part of the monologue with her ex-husband Don Johnson.
