Philadelphia real estate magnate Shawn Bullard is America's first black TV bachelor, getting help with finding love. MStars News reporter Star Connor had a chance to speak with the sexy new single businessman as he searches for love. The WE tv's new reality dating series, Match Made in Heaven has a lot of twists along the way as Shawn tries to make a connection with 24 eligible bachelorettes. There are currently five women left on the show.
The twist of this new series is the guidance Shawn receives from Pastor Ken Johnson (spiritual advisor to the Indianapolis Colts) and his mother, Maggie, who has moved in with the ladies. She gives her son some harsh reality advice when it comes to who has a future to be called her daughter-in-law.
Besides looking for love, Shawn was a graduate of Temple University and played in the NFL. The 34-year-old owns a successful real estate development company as well as several other businesses. Shawn spends his free time giving back to the community by mentoring Philadelphia inner city youth.
Star: How does it feel to be the first African-American TV bachelor?
Shawn: "It feels great. It's bigger than just finding love; that's what I'm trying to get across to people. I want to be a role model to the black community, and be someone that they can get behind as a good representation of black men. In some ways we haven't been put in a good light on reality TV and in the world, and the nation."
He continues, " We are still looked upon as trouble makers, and thugs. To be America's first black bachelor on the same stage as the all white American guy on ABC, it's a role model thing, and a great honor. I just hope I'm doing a good job, and in the process I knew I could possibly find love on the show."
Star: Your show has a little twist to it. You have a pastor and your mother on the show. Tell everybody how that's going.
Shawn: "It's going actually really well. It's a great example of how 'it takes a village to raise a child.'" He adds, "In my life I grew up in the church, and I've been blessed to have two amazing parents. My father isn't here anymore because of cancer, but my mom has been instrumental in my life and still is today, and I'm blessed to have her."
As for the pastor, Shawn says, "I didn't know him prior to the show, but were are great friends now."
Star: When you are looking at these women, what are you looking for as you chose and pick who will be your final love interest?
Shawn: "I'm looking for the one that has the most qualities. I am looking for a women that is self motivated, a go-getter. Now of course I want her to be beautiful and have nice curves and be attractive. I want her to be self-motivated, and have success on her own right."
Shawn adds, "I want her to be a supporter. I like a woman that is a boss, I like a woman that is sexual, because I have a high sexual interest when I'm with a woman. This is my first time saying this, but I want qualities in a woman that I don't even know about yet."
Star: I read some reports, and I want you to clear this up, did you ever date Claudia Jordan?
Shawn: "Me and Claudia are really good friends. Me and her connected in the way you know friends might. But we are really good friends. Now am I attracted to Claudia? Of course she's a beautiful girl. We don't date, we're not engaged."
MStars News previously learned that there were rumors that Shawn started dating the RHOA star after he taped Match Made in Heaven.
