El Rey's 'The Director's Chair' Features Robert Rodriguez With Luis Valdez For Lou Diamond Phillips' 'La Bamba!' [WATCH]

El Rey Network has announced that legendary Zoot Suit filmmaker Luis Valdez will be the next guest of Robert Rodriguez's The Director's Chair. After the duo discuss the world of Chicano Theater, viewers should get ready for the network premiere of the Ritchie Valens biopic, La Bamba, starring Lou Diamon Phillips.

Airing Monday, March 29 at 8:00pm, in this installment of The Director's Chair, Rodriguez discusses Valdez's incredible career at the historic Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles. The theater director delivers an in-depth talk about his wildly popular play Zoot Suit , starring Edward James Olmos (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), which centers on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial and the Zoot Suit Riots. The duo discuss the Latino pioneers of the entertainment industry who have broken though and the responsibility that comes along with it.

The release states, "Ignited to activism at an early age by lifelong hero César E. Chávez, Luiz Valdez has always sought to explore through his art the triumph of the human spirit in the face of social injustice. For his efforts, he has been awarded such prestigious honors as the Obie Award, the Peabody Award, and the Presidential Medal of the Arts, and is often referred to as the 'Father of Chicano Theater.'"

Previous guests in The Director's Chair have been Guillermo Del Toro (The Strain), John Carpenter (Halloween), Francis Ford Coppla (Godfather) and Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful Eight).

Airing that same night at 9:00pm, La Bamba revolves the life and career of Chicano rock 'n' roll star Ritchie Valens. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe for best motion picture drama back in 1988.
