Flavor Flav's defense lawyer reports that the former Public Enemy front man plans to fight criminal domestic battery and assault charges that were brought against him after being arrested at his Las Vegas home last week. Flav hopes to reconcile things with his longtime fiancée - an argument between the couple and fiancée Liz's teenage son Gibran erupted  early last Wednesday morning (Oct. 17), resulting in Flav's arrest.

Flav's attorney Tony Abbatangelo appeared before a Las Vegas court on Monday (Oct. 22) before a Las Vegas judge on behalf of the 53-year-old entertainer (real name, William Jonathan Drayton Jr.). An evidence hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20.

During the heated confrontation last week, Flav allegedly pushed his fiancée to the floor, and then chased her 17-year-old son around, threatening to hurt him with two knives. Flav was arrested around 3 a.m. and booked on two charges -- felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic violence (battery). His bail was set at $23,000.

If charged with felony assault, Flav could face up to six years in prison. An additional six months in jail could be tacked on for a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. Flav would like to reconcile with his girlfriend and family.

This is not Flav's first run-in with the law, he had been in and out of jail many times as a teenager for robbery and burglary. In 1991 the VH1 star plead guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Karen Ross - he served 30 days in jail and lost custody of his children. Flav was imprisoned again in 1993 after being charged with attempted murder after shooting at his neighbor. After gathering even more domestic violence, cocaine, and marijuana charges, his family performed an intervention and Flav checked into the Betty Ford Center for an addiction to crack cocaine. Although he attempted treatment, he returned to jail in 2002 for driving with a suspended license. In May 2011, Flav was arrested on four outstanding misdemeanor warrants for various driving offenses.
