After taking a hiatus from the Wii's Super Smash Brothers, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of Smash, said Mewtwo will return "soon" to the Wii U and 3DS version. This is a sigh of relief for fans of the 150th Pokemon as rumors of his return to were heard back in October. He'll be joining Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Charizard and Lucario as the game's newest Pokemon representative.
While a release date has not yet been confirmed, owners of Super Smash Brothers will be able to pick him up via DLC in the Nintendo Shop. Sakurai says the schematics of the DLC are now complete and now it's just a waiting game for fans.
As of now the way to play as Mewtwo is by buying him. Just as there is no release date, there is no price set on him. His moveset is also hidden but if the movesets of Smash characters rarely change as it is, his skillset will probably be similar to that of the one he had in Melee –– Gamecube's number one selling game.
At one point in time there was way to get him free but that time has passed. The only way to do that was by registering your Super Smash Brothers before January 20th. Not only would you get Mewtwo but you'd also get 72 new songs to go along with the psychic Pokemon original.
The arrival of Mewtwo can make an already great game even better. This console generation's Super Smash Brothers received almost perfect reviews. IGN gave it an 9.8/10, Gamespot gave it a 9/10, Game Informer gave it a 9.5/10 and Metacritic gave it an 8.9 out of 10. Mewtwo is so damn cool, he may even boost the game's stats up some more.
Here's some old footage of Mewtwo back when he waged war on Gamecube. Will the purple ball make its return?
