Natalie Portman's Dior Ad for the, Dior Show New Look Mascara, has been banned for exaggerating the effects in the advertisements. According to the Telegraph, a single complaint was filed about the "multi-dimensional volume and treatment mascara" to the Advertising Standards Authority.
The expensive mascara costs $28.50 and is advertised as, "thickens, separates and extends the lashes for an infinitely multiple lash effect." However, many customers complained on the Sephora site, one said, "I wanted to love this product considering how much I spent, but I was let down. One, the mascara was dried out in a month. Two the brush was very large and hard to work with my small eyes. My lashes look plain and clumpy, not what I wanted at all."
The company's decision to withdraw the ad was swiftly made because if it were to be investigated they would have to prove that they did not use Photoshop. The complaint was reported in June. The fashion company has yet to make an official statement.
In 2011, L'Oreal was under scrutiny and reprimanded for their wrinkle cream. They were accused of "misleading exaggerated" Rachel Weisz's complexion.
Although, a lot of people may not seem pleased with their mascara, others are content. One customer said, "Yeah, it's pricey, but I really like it! Granted, I don't pack it on and desire a more natural look than glam! Recently, I've paired it with the primer and looks even better!"
