Tom Cruise moved the federal court Wednesday against couple of magazines for allegedly fabricating lies about his relationship with his daughter and sought a whopping $50-million in damages from Bauer Publishing Company, which manages the publication of Life & Style and In Touch.
In their previous editions, Life & Style and In Touch magazines carried stories of Cruise allegedly abandoning his daughter Suri, following his divorce from his ex-wife Katie Holmes.
In a multi-million defamation lawsuit filed in the federal court, Cruise has pointed out the July 30th edition of Life & Style, which features a sobbing Suri on its cover with the headline that reads " Suri In Tears, Abandoned by Her Dad " and Oct 1st cover of In Touch which reads "Abandoned by Daddy", with his daughter's picture.
The lawsuit secured by the TMZ, claims that the inside story of the magazines does not go with the claims that were made in the headline. It also suggested that "defendants make money by publishing false and lurid stories about celebrities that are hurtful or embarrassing. They are wholly unconcerned about the truth of what they publish or the harm it causes. Indeed, the more hurt and embarrassment they falsely and maliciously cause their victims, the more money they make."
Cruise's lawyer Bert Fields, in the lawsuit stated that his client is not a litigious person and not sued them before but accusing him of abandoning his child crosses the line.
"Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible," frowned Fields, according to TMZ.
Earlier this year, Cruise opted divorce from his wife of over five-year, Katie Holmes. His daughter is under the primary custody of her mother.
