Songstress LeAnn Rimes opens up about her highly-controversial 2009 affair (where she cheated on ex-husband Dean Sheremet with current hubby Eddie Cibrian) on her new album, "Spitfire" (to be released in 2013). The 30-year-old country crooner admits that two tracks, "What I have Done" and "Borrowed," are emotional ballads that she hopes will lift some weight and shame from her conscious in regards to the whole affair scandal ordeal.

In a tearful interview with popular television host Katie Couric (which airs on Friday, Oct. 26), Rimes insists that the cheating scandal "was very, very difficult. I wouldn't wish it on anyone... and especially in the public eye to go through all of it."

Rimes married backup singer Sheremet in 2002. The couple filed for divorce in 2009, after it was discovered Rimes was having an extramarital affair with "Northern Lights" co-star Cibrian. The duo then married in April 2011. At the time of the affair, Rimes stated, "I take responsibility for everything I've done. I hate that people got hurt...But I don't regret the outcome." Cibrian, who was also married at-the-time, cheated on and ended up divorcing former model Brandi Glanville.

After all of the negative backlash Rimes received from both critics and fans in regards to her cheating, the Grammy Award winner is finally ready to confront such pain through her music and lyrics. "I've carried a lot of guilt for a long time, I think," Rimes admits - and she is now prepared to confront her demons head-on.

While "What I have Done" explores Rimes' personal emotions and remorse, "Borrowed" is a tune that actually chronicles her on-set romance with a married man (while still being married herself) - "I carried the title around with me for about eight months, because I was so unsure of how to write it, without offending anyone, because I had to be so honest in order to write it."

Rimes tells Couric that the album's title ("Spitfire") reflects her current state-of-mind. Recording the new record helped Rimes move on from such painful memories, and she is finally ready to start fresh.

Rimes also discusses other very personal things with Couric - including why she recently decided to admit herself into rehab. "Katie Couric" airs weekdays on ABC at 3 p.m.
