With Daniel Craig becoming the first blond-haired actor to play the role of the stocky British agent, James Bond, now there are talks about the rise of the first 'black Bond'. There is a strong opinion prevailing in the industry over enlisting a black actor to play the role of Bond.
Naomie Harris, the Bond girl in upcoming movie "Skyfall", set out a strong debate over the very possibility of a black actor stepping into the shoes of the infamous British agent, in coming days.
Meanwhile, even Craig also opined that a black actor could easily play the character. "I think the role could easily be played by a black actor because the character created by Ian Fleming in the '50s has undergone a great deal of evolution and continues to be updated," he said, according to MTV.
A black actor essaying the role of Bond came to fore, following Harris' statement about Idris Elba's meeting James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli. In an interview to Huffington Post, she said, "I didn't realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he's a great guy."
On the other hand, Craig also seems to have an opinion that apparently the next James Bond may not have to be from the acting industry itself. He suggested soccer player Steven Gerrard for playing Bond in future. Gerrard heads the captainship of Liverpool and England's national soccer teams.
"Who would I rather be, captain of Liverpool or Bond? Well, I don't think I could keep up any more so Bond will do, but Steven Gerrard would make a good Bond. He is a good leader, so you know what, seriously, who knows?" Los Angeles Times quoted Craig as saying.
The 23rd instalment to the James Bond franchise, "Skyfall", will hit the screen on Nov 1. Craig has reportedly signed for playing Bond in two more films.
So, who's your choice Elba or Gerrard? Who do you think will make for a good James Bond?
