Nadya Suleman aka Octomom has checked into rehab to keep anxiety levels down, combat exhaustion, and seek help for prescription drug addiction.
The single mother of 14 has checked herself into the Chapman House Treatment Center in Los Angeles On Oct 23 for a month or more for emotional problems. She was taking Xanax under medical supervision but she opted for a rehab course to effectively deal with her inner troubles.
"Ms. Suleman has been taking Xanax that was prescribed by her doctor to deal with her anxiety but she felt she needed a treatment program to help with her recovery," her spokesperson Gina Rodriguez said in a statement, according to Reuters.
"During Suleman's treatment, her children, aged between three and 11, will be cared for by a team of three nannies, two friends, a driver to transport the children to- and-from school and security in front of the house all day and night," Rodgriguez added.
Suleman shot to fame after giving birth to a set of world's longest-surviving octuplets in 2009 in Los Angeles. All of her children were conceived through in- vitro fertility treatments.
Suleman drew worldwide media attention after giving birth to octuplets. Not all of it positive. She already was a single mother of six.
She received death threats and faced protests for her decision to have octuplets. People said that it would increase taxpayers' burden as she was then living on public assistance.
Later, she turned to reality shows and television appearances and even acting in adult movie, in order to raise money to support her children.
Rodriguez reportedly said that the rehab centre offered to provide her treatment free of cost but Suleman insisted on paying her own bills.
