A photo of a receipt with no tip left by a "single mom" became viral on Reddit. The restaurant receipt shows that she spent $138.35 on a meal and a handwritten note that reads "single mom sorry" in the tip section. The user who posted the photo felt that it was shameful for the mother to not tip for such a pricey meal.
"I'm sure $140 could have gotten you and your kids a week worth of groceries, but instead you spend it on one meal?! For shame!," he mentioned.
The "single mother" did leave another note to thank the restaurant staff.
"Thank you, it was great."
Here are some of the web responses:
"Looks fake. Handwriting doesn't match between the tip note and the thank you note. Customer probably left tip in cash so the tip line was left blank," notbob1959 wrote.
"If you're going to eat at a nice restaurant, the tip is part of that experience. If you're a single mom, maybe you should take that $140 and take your kids to Chuck-e-cheese instead," Vickaroo wrote.
Some people pointed out that it wasn't a normal thing to tip in other countries. In America, it is a big part of the restaurant business. Many servers and waiters do not make enough and tips help them get through.
Is it a good excuse to not leave tip? What do you think?
